Excellent fights rounding out the year

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the remaining calendar of major MMA cards is pretty solid the rest of the way.

UFC and Bellator combine to have events every week except Thanksgiving and Christmas weekend (for obvious reasons). The first weekend of awesomeness is this week, as Bellator hosts their 81st event and UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit.

Obviously UFC takes precedence, as they finally end the hostage situation that is the title picture. Of course, that could happen again if GSP beats Condit, so you can probably imagine which way I want this to go.

Bellator is not without interest, though, as they conclude their Lightweight semifinals and then take a week off to prepare for three straight weeks of tournament finals.

Bellator 82 will have the Welterweight final and will be the most notable card that week. Bellator 83 will feature the Featherweight final as well as Zoila Gurgel (since so many were upset with her last fight being on the prelims), but of course, UFC on Fox 6 will take more attention that week.

And finally, Bellator 84, Bellator's Season Seven finale and the company's final card on MTV2, will air on Dec. 14. The Lightweight and Heavyweight finals will lead up to the main event, where Christian M'Pumbu defends his Bellator Light Heavyweight Championship.

That card, however, will have stiff competition. UFC on FX (which doubles as the Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes finale) will be that same night live from Australia. Then, UFC will hold the U.S-based Ultimate Finale the next night. Certainly a busy weekend.

The year will end two weeks later with UFC 155: Dos Santos-Velasquez II, concluding an awesome end-of-year run with a UFC World Heavyweight Championship bout.

Here's to an awesome end to 2012!
